On Friday, February 22nd, 2019 Mary Elizabeth (Grant) Wynands passed away suddenly after a long illness at the age of 89. Mary was born on June 1st, 1929 in Windsor Nova Scotia. She moved to Montreal in her early teens and worked as a private secretary. She met her future husband at a high school dance when she was 16. She married Dr. John Earl Wynands when she was age 24 upon his graduation from medical school. They were inseparable for 72 years. Together they raised 6 children: four sons (John, Grant, Bob and Paul) and two daughters (Mary Jane and Nancy). Mary was a loving and devoted wife and companion to Earl and made continuous outstanding contributions to her husband’s successful career in anesthesiology. She was a devoted mother, homemaker, knitter, gardener and dressmaker. She was known for quick wit and kind and compassionate spirit. She is predeceased by her father Francis, mother Violet, brothers Frank and Gerry and sister Katherine. She is survived by her husband Dr. John Earl Wynands, O.C., her six children, her brother John and her sister Jean, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, (at O’Connor) Ottawa, Ont. K2P 1A2 on Tuesday, February 26th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St Joseph’s Parish, 174 Wilbrod Street, Ottawa Ontario, K1N 6N8 on Wednesday, February 27th at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dementia Society or to St. Joe’s Woman’s Center.org.
