Obituary of Marjorie Leslie
Leslie, Marjorie Ellen – Port Medway/Dartmouth
We are saddened to share the news of the passing on February 3, 2019 of our mother Marjorie. Born in 1934 to Laurie and Florence (Selig) Clattenburg.
Marjorie grew up in a happy, love-filled home, surrounded by many siblings – Florence and Arthur, who are still with us and Stella, Mildred, Pauline, Nellie, Charles, and Harris, who passed before. In 1951, Marjorie married Alfred, and moved from Port Medway to London, Ontario, and in the years following, back to Nova Scotia, to Port, Enfield, Dartmouth, Waterloo, White Point, and Bridgewater. Wherever life found them, their home was a warm, welcoming place to be, well-kept, perfectly decorated, and always ready for company. Marjorie maintained a busy professional life all the while, as Station Mistress at Medway CN Railway Station, and in administration or sales positions at Bowring, G.B. Murphy Jewellers, National Sea Products, Dartmouth Medical Centre, Dartmouth Emergency Hospital, Dartmouth City Hall, Eaton’s, Dartmouth School Board, and MT&T. She was a clever, quick-learner, with keen common sense that served her well as she served those around her.
At the centre of Mom’s heart was her close-knit family. She was a devoted mother to Bob and Anne (Peter McNulty), a cherished grandmother to Meredith and Mikella, and a very special great grandmother to Gavin.
She spoke so fondly of her parents and siblings and returned home to Port at every opportunity. There was nothing she loved more than reunions and gatherings, having everyone together under one roof, just like when she was little. Marjorie blessed everyone with her kind and caring heart, gentle spirit, and sweet smile. She was deeply nurturing, always doing for and taking care of others. She had a special, indescribable touch. She could make anything beautiful, from bed linens to baked goods, and was even known to carve radishes into roses to garnish a salad. She found joy in so much – gardening, painting, entertaining, music, singing, dancing… And brought a lifetime of joy to us all.
We would like to express our deep appreciation for the staff at Maplestone who became like family to Marjorie and to us, for their care, compassion, and support, including the recreation volunteers who helped keep joy and music a constant in Marjorie’s life. A very special thank you goes to Marjorie’s earth angel Marion Crane, a selfless person who embodies the very notion of loving care. We are so grateful for you. We know Mom was too.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Bridgewater. Condolences and memories can be left at www.sweenysfuneralhome.com. Please consider donating to Alzheimer’s research in Marjorie’s memory.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Marjorie
