Marie Fraser Maiden Ross of Edmonton Jan 20 1950 Feb 17 2019

On February 17, 2019 Marie Melanie Fraser passed away unexpectedly. Marie was a devoted and caring wife for 47 years to Calvin Fraser; beloved, dedicated mother to Ross (Natasha) and Meghan (Seiji); and adoring and adored Nana to Kohzaemon and Anna. She also leaves to mourn siblings Teresa Nicholson, Joan Sicotte, Angus (Joyce) Ross, Fran (Dwain) McGuire, Ian (Fatima) Ross; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. She is deeply mourned by many “extended” family friends including the Fujii family of Japan and Alma Hyseni of Edmonton. Marie gave willingly of herself to others; she was never happier than when she was helping someone else.
Marie was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan but moved with her family in Junior High school to Edmonton where she completed high school and her first university degree in Recreation Administration. In her youth Marie was a figure skater and swimmer. After marrying, Marie and Calvin moved to Saskatchewan where she returned to university for a B.Ed. which quickly developed her passion helping students and other teachers in a career that spanned 32 years.
In later life Marie taught for several years in Kosova and Germany before joining Calvin in Ottawa and later retiring together to Edmonton where she insisted on a home with a garden, another of her passions. During those years and until last year they travelled extensively to more than 30 countries and Marie had the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren in Japan and Moscow. She was as important to them as they were to her.
