Obituary of Loretta Lamey
Catherine “Loretta” Lamey, age 76, of New Glasgow, formerly of Westville passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with her loving family by her side.
Born in New Glasgow, on January 25, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Catherine (Beaton) Lamey, Westville.
Loretta was manager of Zeller’s Restaurant for many years. Loretta was an active and faithful member of the Catholic Church, and member of the Cursillo Movement , Lourdes CWL and a former member of St. Gregory’s C.W.L. She was a volunteer of the Pictou County Food Bank and the Shepherd’s Lunch Room.
Nanny was an incredibly strong and faithful woman. She filled much of her time caring for others, volunteering in her community and her church, or lending caring support to her friends, neighbours and family. You’d often find her hanging out with the girls in her building sharing a good story, a good laugh or where to find the best deals over a Bbq. She was an excellent cook and her fresh baked biscuits, squares and cookies were always a treat, made with much love. Her family was everything to her. She loved them with every inch of her heart and we are all the better for it. In her life she faced many difficult times with incredible strength and determination. Losing her son Joe, was the one thing that truly tested that strength, but it never tested her faith in God. It is a great comfort to think of the two of them together again.
Loretta will be dearly missed by her daughters Susan MacLean, Halifax; Gail MacLean, New Glasgow; sons, Doug MacLean (Helene), Bedford; Greg MacLean, Dartmouth; daughter-in-law Angie MacLean (Oliver), Stillwater Lake; grandchildren, Brendan MacLean (Jillian), Heather Pierce, Gillian Pierce, Katie MacLean, Camden MacLean, Mason MacLean, and Avery MacLean.
She is also survived by sisters Mary O’Connor (Don), Truro; Cecelia Millen, Westville; Elizabeth Lamey, Trenton; and Linda Sorel, Antigonish; brothers, Bernie Lamey (Keddy), New Glasgow, Lawrence Lamey (Carol), Bayfield, and Leo Lamey (Glenda), Westville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Joe MacLean; sister and brothers, Theresa, Jim, Willard, Donnie, and Ken Lamey.
There will be no visitations by request. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville with Father Dennis Lamey officiating. Spring interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
