John Robert Thera
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, John Robert Thera, who passed away on February 12th, 2019 just two weeks before his eightieth birthday.
Beloved husband of Josie (nee Forster), loved father to Jacquie (Stephen Fields) and Michelle (Richard Sachs). Dearly missed by his siblings Arlene(late Fred) , Eugene (Lil) and predeceased by his brother Richard (late Maxine). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Kyla, Kelsey, Kaden, Hannah and Tommy.
Born in Saskatchewan in 1939, John graduated from the University of Saskatchewan. After marrying mom in 1963 and starting their family, they moved to Ottawa where dad completed his Masters in Public Administration at Carleton University. John went on to work for the Federal Government and worked in various different government departments until his retirement at age fifty two. After his formal retirement he continued to work on a contract basis and volunteer his time to various local organizations. John was extremely active with curling, cross country skiing and pickle ball and had a passion for gardening, ballroom dancing, travel and bridge.
The family wish to extend their deepest gratitude both to the Ottawa Hospital (General campus) and the Ottawa Heart institute for their exceptional care over the last week.
Friends are invited to the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 3pm, reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to The Ottawa Heart Institute or charity of your choice.
