It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family of Joan Allen announce her passing which occurred surrounded by her loving family at the Loch Lomond Villa on February 1, 2019. Born May 13, 1936 in Saint John she was the only child of Russell and Thelma (Dunphy) Porter. Joan was a graduate of Business College and in her earlier days she worked as a legal secretary for the former Guss, Taylor and Gregory Law Firm. She later worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Stephen at the W.C.B. Joan also worked for over 19 years as the secretary of the Employee Health Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, retiring in 1999. Joan was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed crocheting, crosswords, cooking and traveling. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years George Allen; son Kevin Allen (Darlene) of Brampton, ON and daughter Lisa Smith (Jim) of Markham, ON; precious grandchildren Sarah Allen, Connor Smith and Jillian Smith; nieces, nephews and friends. Along with her parents, Joan was predeceased by an infant daughter Susan Allen.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday and Monday, February 3rd & 4th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 5th from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory can be made to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation, Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of News Brunswick.
