Obituary for
Janet Anne Roper (Roberts)
Roper, Janet Anne
Peacefully in hospital surrounded by family on February 26, at the age of 85. Beloved wife to the late Michael Roper. Loving mother to Vicky (Mark Constantineau), Meg (Simon Worswick), Kate (Doug Aide). Doting grandmother to Camryn and Darcie Worswick. Loving ‘Aunt Jan’ to her 6 nephews and 1 niece. Predeceased by her parents Bennet and Gladys, step-mother Edith, and her four siblings.
Jan was a long time member of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club where she enjoyed many days on the golf green and bridge games with her friends. Proud member of PEO Chapter J, former Kiwanian, active member Christ Church Cathedral and resident at the Redwoods Retirement Residence. As a former teacher, she was passionate about education and about kids; she spent considerable time volunteering in classrooms and reading to the pre-schoolers at the Esther-By Daycare. In 2013, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to honour her contributions and public service.
Jan was a dedicated mother, daughter, sister, wife and true friend. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital’s ACE unit and to all the staff at the Redwoods Retirement Residence. A very special thanks to Kim Mundt, who lovingly tended and cared for her as her PSW and friend for many years.
Friends will be received at the West Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry 150 Woodroffe Ave, (at Richmond Road) Ottawa on Sunday March 3rd from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral (414 Sparks Street, Ottawa) on Monday March 4th at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson’s Society, PEO Sisterhood Ontario and the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation are appreciated.
