It is with saddened hearts we announce the death of Herbert Edward Blakley of St. Stephen, NB. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Charlotte County Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Herbert was born in Lawrence Station, NB., son of the late Herbert Ambrose and Laura Jean (Brown) Blakley.
Herbie leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Madeline Blakley (McDougall) , four daughters: Roseann Hall (Ronnie) of Ledge Road, Terry Hovey (Dale) of Canoose , Crystal Morrow (Mark) and Peggy Clifford (Larry Cooke) of St. Stephen, six grandchildren: Keith Blakley of Lawrence Station, Katie Snow of Nunavut, Jillian Hall, Erika Morrow, Ricky and Michael Hovey, all of St. Stephen area, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Edward, daughter, Gail, baby brother, Roland and sister, Effie.
Herbie was a good provider for his family and made sure we had what we needed to get by. He was a hard worker all his life. He had a variety of jobs, from working in the woods at a young age with his father and a team of horses, hauling Christmas trees to Boston with Dee Cleghorn for Spence Bros., which had some stories to go with it at the time, working at Bartlett’s Mill, hauling pulp wood for Jim LaJoie in the 70’s to working for NB DOT for 16 years until his retirement at age 60.
He was an avid outdoorsman and a “Mr. Fix-it”. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t fix. He loved the chance to get out hunting and fishing and spending time cutting his own firewood, even though it was a lot of work, he took great satisfaction in it. Over the years, Herbie put many miles on trampling around through the 20,000-acre block. When he went hunting, he didn’t just drive around, he walked looking for that trophy buck, or he’d be out picking tips, when it was tipping season. We as a family, (wives, husbands and kids) would spend a good many days out tipping. We would always look like the “Clampetts’” coming back in from a long day in the woods, but we always had a lot of laughs and always a lot of good tips!!! Good times!!
He had such a full, and sometimes hard life, it would be impossible to put it all into words.
Until we see you again. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
In keeping with Herbie’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation held.
For those who wish, donations in Herbie’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Parkinson Foundation, Diabetes Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Herbert Edward Blakley September 07 1931 February 07 2019..
