Hartley Holland
1924-2019
“I have
fought a good
fight, I
have finished my course, I
have kept the
faith”. And so it was that in the early
evening of February 13th, Hartley Randolph
Holland, surrounded by his family, finished life’s course
and went home to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Born on May 6th, 1924, Hartley was the first
born to Oliver and Tressa (Jordan) Holland. Married to the love of his
life, he and Edwena enjoyed over ‘74 years of
marriage’, and were blessed with wonderful health
and much happiness.
In addition to his wife, Hartley is survived by his son Fred
(Wendy), daughter Dianne McCallum (Dwight), daughter Gail Rickard
(Robin), daughter-in-law Bonnie, brothers Garnet, Merritt, sisters
Lillian Wilson, Annie Harris, Florence O’Neill, Doris
Jamieson, and Joyce Greer, grandchildren Christopher McCallum, Jenny
Stymiest, Tammy Jensen, Peter Holland, Trisha Comeau, Scott Holland,
Michael Holland, and Kimberley Strowbridge, several grandchildren,
great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Like any family, Hartley and Edwena shared times of great joy
and times of deep sorrow. In addition to his parents,
Hartley was predeceased by his son Rick, his grandson Timothy, and his
brothers Weldon, George and Howard.
Hartley worked for many years with SMT and NB Power prior to
his retirement in 1987. Although he enjoyed the simple
things in life, his greatest accomplishment was that of being a
devoted husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and a friend to many.
Hartley loved to spend time reminiscing about the ‘good old
days’ and enjoyed countless hours in conversations with
family and friends in the warmth and comfort of his ‘sun
room’.
In his earlier years, Hartley enjoyed bowling, hunting,
fishing, snowmobiling and was an avid outdoorsman. He and
Edwena enjoyed the company of family and friends while attending
hundreds of community and church suppers, and accumulated thousands of
miles driving through the country sides of New Brunswick, again, often
accompanied by family and life long friends.
Hartley, by virtue of his age, was the oldest living member
of the Corbett Avenue Wesleyan Church. He was also a Member
of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge # 33 F & A M and the River
Valley Antique Tractor & Engine Club. In keeping with
Hartley’s wishes, visitation will be held at the Corbett
Avenue Wesleyan Church, 55 Corbett Avenue, Fredericton on Saturday,
February 16th, 2019, at 11:30 AM –
1:30 PM followed by a celebration of Hartley’s life
beginning at 2:00 PM. For those who wish and in lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Corbett Avenue Wesleyan
Church, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
