Glen Irwin Peever
October 22, 1940 – February 9, 2019
On Saturday, February 9th, 2019 Glen Peever passed away peacefully at home, in his sleep, following a 10 month battle with his latest cancer. He was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer last March and continued his life and enjoyment of writing and reading almost to the very end.
Glen was born just outside Sudbury, Ontario to a family that would eventually number 5 boys and 1 girl. His early years were spent at Camp Borden and Barrie, Ontario. He attended and graduated from le College Militaire Royale de St. Jean and the Royal Military College of which he was inordinately proud because it gave him an excellent education, and because he always maintained that any success he had as a manager was due to the lessons learned at RMC, and in the PPCLI where he served for three years. Most of Glen’s working life was spent in management in the life insurance business, and in food services especially at Sunshine Village, Alberta. In 1985, Glen and Barbara were married and moved west to the mountains that became significant to them all the years that remained. Glen would maintain for his whole life that the peace he found with Barbara, and in the mountains, became the rock upon which he built his happiness. He tried, from the day they were married, to spend every moment by Barbara’s side, and to see one of them without the other was always a strange sight. Such was their love for each other.
Glen was predeceased by his father, Percy Kenneth, his mother, Katie Helena (nee Cook), his sister, Evelyn Periard, and his brother, Walter Arnold.
He is survived by his siblings Roy in Moncton, Grant in Barrie, and Ron in Stouffville. Glen is also survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Stoltz), his son Craig (Lisa), daughter Janet (Mike) Ifabumuyi, and grandchildren, Cameron, Griffin, Liam, Haille, and Brendan.
A Celebration of Glen’s Life will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Cranbrook Golf Course from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
Another Celebration of Life will be held in Canmore, AB and Ontario at a later date.
