Obituary of Gerald Smith
SMITH, Gerald Howard – passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the age of 97 years.
Gerald Smith of Pembroke, son of the late Howard and Grace Smith. Beloved husband of the late Joan Smith (nee Hillier), and the late Ivy Thompson. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter Nancy Stanton (Peter Goulah), Apple Hill, Ontario; and son Jeffrey Smith, Wakefield, Quebec. Predeceased by son Gary Smith (Mea), Pembroke, Ontario. Grandpa to Scott Smith, Elizabeth Rylance, Jill Stanton and Sarah Stanton. Great-Grandpa to Selma, Omar, Jack, Olivia, Emilie, Caitlin, Harrison, Owen and Lillian. Predeceased by his brothers Russell (late Gwen), Bryson (late Melba) and Donald (late Patricia). Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Respecting Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Church, Pembroke on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment of ashes in Wesley United Cemetery will take place in the spring, followed by a celebration of life. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated. Online donations/condolences are available at www.mdbfuneralhome.com.
