Obituary of Frederick Coffman
Coffman, Frederick William “Bill” – Died peacefully on Sunday, February 10 at his home in Toronto, age 85. Survived by his children Cheryl Kayahara-Bass (David), Phyllis Coffman, Peter Coffman (Diane Laundy), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Andrée Coffman in 1996. Loving companion of Barbara Costello. Bill graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1959, followed by a long and productive career as an industrial designer that included extended spells at CCM and Raleigh. He was a passionate enthusiast and authority on the history of aviation, particularly the aircraft of World War 2. His many other varied achievements included Soap Box Derby champion in 1949, numerous car-race wins in his beloved BMW 700 at Mosport, and a City of Toronto Medal of Service in 1983 in recognition of his tireless advocacy for safe cycling. Inquisitive, mischievous, creative and generous, he is missed and mourned by all of the many who loved him.
A Memorial Service to be held on Thursday, February 21, 2 – 4p.m. in the Dovercourt Baptist Church sanctuary which is directly connected to the New Horizons Tower corner of Bloor and Dufferin Streets, Toronto. This will be an informal time especially for fellow residents and local people. We are hoping to have a few “stories ” from Bill’s life from friends and family and if you have any stories to relate we would be glad to hear them. There will be an informal reception following the service.
Since February weather is so bad for travel for a lot of people we will plan for a time for family and other friends get together later in the Spring in Vineland when travel is more reliable. For more information contact John Coffman.
