Ernest’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the families of Dr. Ernest Chude Dureke announce his sudden passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, NL, on Monday, February 18th, 2019 at the age of 85 years.
Dr.Dureke spent many years as an Anesthesiologist at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, retiring in 2009.
Previously, Dr. Dureke was the Wing Commander and Commanding Officer of the Nigeria Air Force Base Hospital Kano in Nigeria.
Ernest leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 30 years, Daphne Dureke (nee Lodge), his children; Ernest Dureke (Lillian) of Tralee, Ireland, Owen Dureke of Tralee, Ireland, Ita Dureke (Mark) of Richmond, England, James Pelley (Arlene) of Massey Drive, NL, Christina Dureke (Richard) of Tralee, Ireland,, daughter-in-law Lori Chynn (Pelley) of Deer Lake, NL. His grandchildren Leroy Dureke (Emma) of London England, Lyndsey Dureke (James) of London, England, Michael Pelley (Arianna) of Saint John, NB, Kelsey Dureke of Tralee, Ireland, Kelsey de La Torre (Ivanhoe) of Rialto, California, Riana O’Dell-Pelley of Massey Drive, NL, Erin Lansley of Richmond, England, Cormac Lansley of Richmond, England, and Lorcan Lansley of Richmond, England. His two great-grandchildren, Jade Dureke and Kayden Dureke of Tralee, Ireland. Many other loved relatives, throughout Canada, Ireland, England, USA, South Africa and Nigeria. Special heartfelt thoughts to Tammy Benoite and Gene Wells and especially, the wonderful staff at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents, Mary and John Dureke of Nigeria, his son; John Pelley of Deer Lake, NL,, his brothers of Nigeria, His Royal Highness Eze Dureke, Eugene Dureke, Hugh Dureke, Chief John Dureke, Joseph Dureke, Modestus Dureke, his sisters of Nigeria, Mary Dureke, Victoria Ogu, Brigid Dureke, and Magdalene Dureke, his uncle Chief Osa Dureke of Nigeria,, and his Granddad Chief Okonojaku Dureke.
The family will be receiving only relatives and special close friends, on Friday 22nd February, 2019 from 12- 1:30 pm, at Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, where also a private service to follow at 2:00 pm, with Father Gabriel and Major Henry Bingle officiating.
And then keeping with Ernest’s wishes cremation will take place with a private Interment to take place at a later date.
