Obituary of Donald Jacobson
Don passed away peacefully while in Palliative Care in Regina, SK. Don is survived by his loving wife and best friend Marie; son Kevin (Diane), Wesley (Gwen); daughter Chrystal (Kim Petz); grandchildren Tara (Greg Guest), Jillian (Kelly Byers) and Steven Jacobson, Amy, Megan and Jessica Petz; brother Eugene (Jeannette); sisters in law Ida (Clare) Offet and Mable Evert; several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Hedwig Jacobson; brothers Lloyd (Lilly) and Kenneth (Joyce); sister Bernice (Hollis Hoimyr) and half brother John Evert. Don’s school years, grades 1-8 were spent at Valhaven School and he use correspondents for his high school years. He started his working career with his brother on a farm with cattle ranching. This later led him to highway construction with heavy equipment. On April 11, 1959 Donald and Marie (Ratcliffe) were married in Regina. On June 1, 1960 he started working for Canada Postal Service in which he covered many areas – Letter Sortations, Supervisor of letter carriers, Financial Supervisor over counters and wickets, Acting Postmaster in Yorkton and President of their Local Union. This covered 31 and a half years of dedicated service, retiring in 1991. Don continued to do part time work hauling mail to RR1 and 2, trucking mail up Hwy 11 to Bladworth and Davidson and Hwy 1 to White City and Emerald Park. He enjoyed camping, fishing and casino trips to various locations in Canada and the United States. Summer months were spent at the trailer at Sherwood Forest Park. Grandchildren’s sports, dance and games, whether they were in Indian Head, Lumsden, Martensville, Regina or Saskatoon, it was a must to go. Don and Marie enjoyed travelling to Cancun, Mexico, Rome, Florence and Venice. In 2010 he started having health issues so they sold the house on Robinson Cr. and moved to their condo. Don enjoyed his North East Senior cards at Mt. Olive Church and the Tuesday and Thursday walks with Northgate Walkers Club. At Don’s request there will be no funeral service and family burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery at Beaubier.
