A great man unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019 in his 87th year. Born March 13, 1931 to Joseph and Hannah Spencer in England. Derek married his soulmate Alma on June 6, 1953. Dad to Carol (Brian), Ian (Lorraine); predeceased by daughter Maureen. Special Grandpa to Lindsie (Steven), Alisha (Will) and Traviss (Donna). Special Mamman to Justin (Hayley) and Leanne (Greg). Proud Great Popa to Accalia, Abbigail, Shea, Brooklyn, Beckham and Savannah. Predeceased by sister Sheila, sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-laws Maurice and John. Survived by sister-in-law June, brother-in-law Alan and his cherished nieces and nephews and their families. Derek moved his family to Canada in 1968, settling in Hespeler where they remained to December 2018 thanks to the help of his caring neighbours. Derek and Alma moved to Queen’s Square in January 2019 to help him to regain his strength to move back to their beloved home. Derek was an Industrial Engineer for Clare Brothers until he retired. Derek and Alma loved to travel. Derek had several health problems and fought hard to overcome them, he amazed everyone with his ability to keep on going. Derek loved his gym at Freeport Hospital and the people he met there. A private family funeral has taken place. Derek was an unbelievable man and touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
