NICHOL: Colleen E.
Jan. 28, 1961 – Feb. 18,2019
Colleen Elizabeth Nichol was born in Nokomis on January 28, 1961 to Charles (Allen) and Ursula Nichol. She has an older brother, Keith and a younger brother Sean. Colleen completed all of her school years at Nokomis School and was very active in figure skating, curling, the gymkana and 4H clubs through the years of her youth. Colleen started her career in the workforce as a teenager working at Mike’s Cafe as a waitress. After graduation, she moved to Regina and worked at SGI. In 1981, Colleen left her position at SGI to take on the role as mother when she welcomed her daughter Julie into the world. She relocated and made Nokomis her permanent home, becoming actively involved in the family SGI and Sears businesses until she went to work at the Wheat Pool Farm at Watrous in the mid 80’s in agronomy and continued working there until the fall of 1991. She worked a few other jobs after that, but remained active with SGI until Allen sold the business in the late 90’s. Colleen worked part-time at the Nokomis Co-op for many years following. As Julie grew up, Colleen became active in curling once again. She became a regular with the Nokomis Curling Club and was involved in many bonspiels. She was also a grateful member of A.A. Colleen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis shortly before Christmas in 2001, but she kept doing whatever she could. She was right there in 2002 to help welcome her first grandchild into the world. Over the years, Colleen was blessed with five more grandchildren and she was proud of them all. In 2008, MS had overtaken Colleen to the point where she required long-term care. She spent a few months in Lanigan Health Centre and then was moved into the Nokomis Health Centre. Colleen’s battle with MS came to an end very quickly on February 18th, 2019. She is predeceased by her parents Allen and Ursula and her uncle Louis. She is survived by her daughter Julie (David) Lowdermilk and Julie’s children, Jade Koch, Adam, Quinn, Travis, Lane and Brandi of Kenaston, brothers Keith and Sean (Darlene) of Nokomis and nephew Neil of Regina as well as her aunt Maureen Toth of Regina and cousins Edwin of Vancouver, BC, Donna, Laura (Kurt) Gulash and children Sarah, Jessica, Emily and Matthew all of Regina, and Kevin (Cara) and children Abbey and Ashlyn of Calgary, AB. Colleen’s Funeral Service will be held in Nokomis Centennial Hall, Nokomis, SK on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Clark Puckett officiating. Interment in Nokomis Cemetery.
