MONCHUK, Catherine Anne
June 2, 1941 – February 2, 2019
After a life devoted to her family, Cathy Monchuk died peacefully Saturday morning following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was 77. Cathy is now reunited with the love of her life, Wil, who died in 2017. During 56 years of marriage, they raised Judy (Chris) and Dennis (Linda). They were blessed with four grandchildren – Luc, Cassy, Brandon (Jenessa) and Kate; and one great-grandson, Kohen. She is predeceased by her granddaughter Jessica, mother to Joel, Jamieson, Tristan and Phoenix.
Raised in Cape Breton, N.S., Cathy leaves behind her siblings, Bill (Mary Lou), Janie, Judy and Rick (Pam), and their families.
Cathy and Wil married in Happy Valley, Labrador and settled in Alberta in the 1960s. They were active in their faith community at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Edmonton. Cathy was a Credit Manager for most of her career. Cathy then returned to school, studying to be a seniors’ caregiver.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Harvest House in Sherwood Park for their compassion, care and support to Cathy and Wil over the past five years.
To celebrate Cathy’s life, a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South Funeral Home (4820 Meridian Street).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
