Bryna Monson, 89, passed away at Hillel Lodge in Ottawa, on Thursday, January 31, 2019. She was born on October 24, 1929 in Victoriaville, Quebec, the youngest of five children to Rae and Charles Grosser. In 1949 she married Jack Monson of Ottawa. Left to honour Bryna and remember her love are her two children Charlyne (Murray) Ashford and Howard Monson; five grandchildren: Zachary Monson (Anne Potter), Nathan Monson (Karyne Sauve), Jacob Monson (Erica McCloskey), Jason Ashford and Allan Ashford (Leah Hutchinson); two great-grandchildren: Vivienne and Felicity; her former daughter-in-law, Sharon Monson (Harvey Rosen); and further extended family. Bryna founded Languages of Life, a community-based interpretation/ translation service in over 100 languages. Bryna was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for her ongoing work providing Canadians the means to communicate with each other. Funeral services are on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Jewish Community Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Ave. Interment will follow at Jewish Memorial Gardens- Osgoode Cemetery, 6549 Herberts Corners Road. Shiva will take place at 310 Wild Iris Ave; mourners will receive visitors Sunday following interment, until 8 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday will go from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bryna’s name to Hillel Lodge.
