Blyth Earle Taylor
May 2, 1929 – February 23, 2019
In his 90th year, Earle passed away peacefully at the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, where he spent his entire career, with his wife Joan (née Collins) and many members of his family at his bedside. Predeceased by his parents Vera (Bennett) and Kenneth Taylor. Survived by the large family that he created with loving wife and best friend Joan: Ian, Ross, Jim (Tanja), Jane (Steve), Cameron (Suzanne), and Susie (Dave), and his grandchildren who made him so very proud: Lily & Sally, Nina, Will & Elizabeth and Fin. Cherished by Fin’s mom, Wendy. Special brother to Lesley Taylor, with whom he always shared a hearty laugh. Earle was born up the Gatineau in Maniwaki, Quebec, completed high school in Arnprior, and attended Queen’s University, graduating Meds’54. He met Joan, a nurse, while they were both working on the same floor at Kingston General Hospital. They married in the U.K. in 1959, and created happy memories with Ian while living and finishing his training in Liverpool. Returning to Canada, Earle established a general surgery practice in Picton, and spent a satisfying career deeply connected to his family, colleagues, community and the natural beauty of the County. A kind and eternally curious person, he and Joan travelled and entertained, and created a welcoming home for family and friends. Of interests, activities and diversions, there was no end, but Earle will be fondly remembered for his fly fishing, his self-taught, multi-instrumentalist musicianship, his avid support for the arts, and proud involvement as the long-time team doctor for the Wellington Dukes. Forever active, he found great companionship amidst his weekly exercise regimen at PEFAC. His passions continued to evolve throughout his life, and set an example for his children and grandchildren. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to all of those who helped in the past weeks and months; the Prince Edward Family Health Team, the SELHIN, MLP, and the doctors, nurses and PSWs of PECMH in their infinite kindness and expertise. Visitation Sunday, March 3 from 1 – 3 pm at Whattam Funeral Home, 33 Main Street, Picton; Celebration of Life on Monday, March 4 at 2 pm at Picton United Church, 12 Chapel Street, Picton. All welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation (pecmhf.ca) to support the continuing work of his colleagues in delivering health care excellence in our community.
