Obituary for
Ann Hunter Hargest (Finlay)
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Hargest at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on February 19, 2019. Her family and closest friends were by her side. Ann was a graceful and kind woman, a well-travelled lover of poetry and nature. Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Ann was a woman with a sense of mission. She was a social work professional and feminist who sought to empower women through supports that enabled their autonomy. As a leader in the community she was the Director of The Ottawa Children’s Village, and Visiting Homemakers’ Association. She was a founding Board Member of Abbeyfield House and a lifetime member of the Ontario Association for Community Care. The entirety of Ann’s career was dedicated to developing programming and resources to strengthen community care options for all. Ann is survived by her daughter Sophie, her grandchildren Tess and Jonah, her sister Molly (Denis), and her nephews Michael (Anne), Jamie (Carole), Adam (Laurie) and Anthony (Laura) and many beloved cousins and friends. Ann was predeceased by her son Thomas, a tragic loss from which she never fully recovered, her husband Michael and her adoring parents Professor Allan Finlay and Mabel Honeyman. Thanks to the Salvation Army Grace Manor for their care since July 2014, and to the compassionate staff at The Ottawa Hospital. Friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Service at All Saints Anglican Church, 347 Richmond Road Ottawa, ON K2A 0E7 on Friday, March 8, 2019, with visitation commencing at 1:00pm and service and reception to follow at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Ann’s memory to Abbeyfield House, Greenpeace or the Council for Canadians would be appreciated.
Order Flowers
