Alma Jean Brace
1932-2019
Brace, Alma Jean, 86,of Debert,
passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro, with her family by her side. Born in York
Harbour, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late James and Minnie
(Ivany) Parsons. Jean worked in the retail business for many years
while also raising their 5 children. In 1975 Jean and her family moved
to Debert where she and her husband Gordon owned and operated Gordon
Enterprise up until 1982. She was Past President of the U.C.U. in
Debert, and was a member of the Debert Baptist Church. Jean enjoyed
knitting, crafts and in her later years she was never without her
puzzle book. Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was
very devoted in looking after her husband Gordon from 1991 until 2005
during his illness.
She is survived by daughters, Jeannie (John) Sheehan of
Cranbrook, BC, Debbie (Harold) Barclay of Debert; sons, Leslie (Kathy)
Brace and David (Wendy) Brace both of Lower Sackville; Son-in-law Greg
(Cheryl) of Cold Lake AB; grandchildren, Shaun, Sheri, Amy, Todd,
Scott, Melissa, Nicole, Erin, Carrie, Lindsay, William, Chelsea;
great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madison, Morgan, Emily, Jeannine,
Tristen, Cailyn, Landon, Amari, Maddox, Ethan, Jessie, Nicholas,
Dakota; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Gordon William Brace;
daughter, Darlene Joy Blair; brothers, Reginald and his wife Lillian,
Ernest and his wife Dorothy, Lloyd and his wife Stella.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, with visitation Wednesday 6-8 pm
and from where funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 pm.
Reverend Valery Kingsbury will officiate with a reception to follow in
the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Middle
Road Cemetery, Debert. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be
made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the
Canadian Cancer Society. Special thanks are extended to Ruth and the
amazing staff at Karlaine Place for the wonderful care and love given
to our mom during her stay there the past six years. Private messages
