Alfonso Sgro
It is with great sorrow the family announce the peaceful passing of Alfonso, surrounded by his family, at the Hamilton General Hospital on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in his 86th year. Survived by his beloved wife Anna of 55 years. Loving father of Vito Sgro and Antonella Bifano (Tony). Cherished nonno of Kayla and Marc; his princess and prince. Dear brother of Giuseppe Sgro (Caterina), Rocco Battaglia (late Maria Carlotta), Caterina Gullusci (Nick), Pasquale Sgro (Doreen), Sam Sgro (Rose), Tony Sgro (Anna), Carolina Cinelli (late Aldo) and Rosetta Anania (late Frank). Predeceased by siblings Vittoria Scandinavo (Salvatore), Chiara Laratta (Nicola), Rosina Pisano (Paolo) and Mario Anania (Anna Josephine). Predeceased also by his parents Vito and Maria Antonia Sgro. He will be missed also by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Alfonso worked at Dofasco for 40 years. He had the honour of building many homes for countless families. Special thanks to Dr. Bashir and Katie Khambalia, Dr. Darwin Chan, Dr. Kate and to the staff of 8 South and West of the Hamilton General for their sincere care and compassion. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
