In the arms of an angel
Fly away from here
It is with great sorrow we share the passing of Neall following a courageous ten-month battle with cancer. Forever cherished by his spouse of 10 years, Alison, and their young daughter Eva Marie. Neall is survived by his Parents, Bert and Marlene Verheyde of Prince George, BC, and sister Angela Verheyde (Kris Haight) of Edmonton, Alberta, Mother-in-Law Alice McLean (Kenneth, deceased), Sister-in-Law Laura McLean, along with Aunts Audrey Ludlam and Maya Moore of Maple Ridge, BC, and Uncle, Joe Verheyde (Allison) also of Maple Ridge, BC and numerous cousins.
Born in Richmond, BC, Neall was raised in Prince George where he lived until returning to Vancouver to study with SFU’s Computer Science program. Following his graduation, Neall was recruited into Vancouver’s dynamic video game industry where his technical expertise could bring joy to others through his work. He accepted a Graphics Programming role with Radical Entertainment, where he mentored dozens of fellow developers and contributed key engineering expertise on some of the most popular video games of the time. His curiosity, focus, and dedication were admired and respected by the teams he worked with.
Neall’s passion for technology inspired a long career including work in 3D film conversion and most recently, software development for rapid data transfer. His sharp intellect, broad smile, laughter, and kindness will be missed by all.
An avid road cyclist, Neall faithfully commuted to the work he loved through the Vancouver streets that he called home, year round.
Deepest gratitude to the medical teams at Lions Gate Palliative Unit, North Shore Hospice, the Nurses and Home Care Support Workers at Vancouver Coastal Health, and Neurosurgeon Dr. Ryan Janicki. Their care and support over the past months has been tremendous.
A memorial service will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, at 1pm on Sunday February 10th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC SPCA in Neall’s memory.
