Betty Lou Froland was born on July 21, 1951 in Hardisty, Alberta. She grew up on the farm just outside of Hughenden. Betty Lou was the seventh child in the Betsy and Norman Davie family and because of her small stature, she was loved and adored by her brothers and sisters.
Betty Lou went to school and completed grades one through twelve, at Hughenden School where she enjoyed classes and spending time with her friends. After graduation she moved to Edmonton to take a secretarial course at McTavish Business College. After completing her course, she went to work for Crane Plumbing and worked there for many years.
During this time, Betty Lou met the love of her life, Ken Froland from Czar, Alberta. Ken and Betty Lou were married in July of 1972 and enjoyed 47 years together. They lived on the west side of Edmonton and spent most of their summers at the Devon Lion’s Park where they had lots of friends that they would spend time golfing and socializing with.
Betty Lou loved children and it was almost a rite of passage when all of her numerous nieces and nephews (and later great nieces and nephews) would stand back to back with their Aunt Betty Lou and see if they had finally grown taller than her. Betty Lou would smile and hug those nieces and nephews as they proudly boasted how old they were when they got taller than Aunt Lou.
Her love of children eventually led her to start working in a daycare. She especially loved all of the time cuddling babies and she even volunteered at the Royal Alec where she volunteered as a caregiver doing just that. In 2007, Betty Lou worked during the day at the Daycare and at night she went back to school at MacEwan College and took the Early Childhood Development course. She continued to work at the Daycare until she retired.
Betty Lou was suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us on February 13, 2019 at the age of 67 years. She will be missed by her family and friends, but most of all – by the guy she called “Babe”, her husband, Ken.
Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us everyday….unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.
