Florence was born on February 2, 1937 as the second last daughter of 12 to her parents Mathias Joseph Ourada and Gladys Vera Stiff Ourada in Boise, Idaho. She grew up on a ranch, milking cows, shucking peas and hunting deer among other normal farm life activities. She attended primary school at Stack Rock School, a one room schoolhouse, and later, Boise High School, where she graduated top of her class, and the Seattle University in Seattle, WA. She also traveled and worked in a number of cities including Seattle, Boise, and Cincinnati . In 1964, she traveled to Bogata, Columbia as a papal volunteer where she taught at a Benedictine girls’ school. While there, she met Alphonse Theobald and they were married in 1966. The two then moved to Canada, living in a number of cities including Kamloops, Vernon, Armstrong and finally Enderby where they raised their family of six children. After the passing of her son Craig (1983) and husband Alphonse (1986), she attended community college, upgraded computing and accounting skills and went back to work, supporting her last three children through to graduation. Florence made her final move to Victoria, BC in 2012 to be closer to her family.
She will be remembered for her huge flower, fruit and vegetable gardens, her homemade wine, jam and preserves, her endless bowls of nuts and dried fruit, her dedication to St. Ann’s parish in Enderby, her faith and steadfastness, her support of the impoverished, her smile, her openness to everyone she met, her amazing memory and her love for her family.
