John was born in Oxford, England and moved to Canada to escape the Second World War. He grew up on the Key Indian Reserve in Saskatchewan with his parents, brothers Chris and Francis, and sister Anne. He later came to Castlegar in the 70’s to help start up a new college that was forming there, one that was named after his favorite mountain range, The Selkirks.
It’s here, along with his wife Joan, he raised his two children Celia and Chris and with them explored the outdoors on skis, bikes, and by foot.
At 83, John still spent almost every day walking the Waterline Trails where he regularly did trail maintenance and constructed new pathways. He left us quietly in the bedroom of the home he raised his children in and lived in the last 38 years.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2019, 11:00 am at the St. David’s Anglican Church, 614 Christina Place, Castlegar BC.
