Gerard Cornelis duBois

Gerard Cornelis Anthonius Marie (Gerd) duBois passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 9, 2019 at the Victoria General hospital at the age of 84. He was born in Maastricht, The Netherlands on September 10, 1934. He was the son of the late Johannes Willen and Eleonora Francoise (Van de Ven) duBois. He is survived by the love of his life, Eliane Gemma Marie (Lefevre) duBois, his son, Nick duBois, and his daughter, Nora duBois, his nephew, Marcel (MaryAnn) duBois, and his sister-in-law, Miets duBois. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Peter and John, and sisters Maddy and Einne.
He came to Canada in 1958, where he was the manager of the Poly Clinic in Charlottetown, PEI for 5 years, followed by the Assistant Professor and Administrator for the Department of Family Medicine of Dalhousie University from 1975 to 1990. During his tenure at Dalhousie, he wrote a book on “The Business of Medical Practice” published in 1990. His career continued as the Administrative Director and Adjunct Professor of Family Medicine in North Eastern Ontario from 1990 to 1998. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia and was a member of Saint Andrews Catholic Church.
The family would like to send out special thanks to the staff and doctors from the Queen Elizabeth II & the Victoria General. Also, a special big thank you to their family doctor, Dr. Rick Gibson.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, February 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Eastern Passage Community Funeral Home on 5 Cow Bay Road. The Funeral will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 10:30 am at Saint Andrews Catholic Church on 1570 Shore Road, Eastern Passage with Father Gerald David officiating. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall at 16 Disciples Way, Eastern Passage.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Andrews Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
