OBITUARY
Mrs. Agnes Janzen
October 17, 1925 – January 29, 2019
Agnes Janzen, 93, of Abbotsford, B.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January
29, 2019 in her room at White Rock Seniors Village where she had recently moved.
She was born on October 17, 1925, to the late Bernard and Margaret Boldt in Gretna,
Manitoba, the first child of the family to be born in Canada after emigrating from
Russia. The young family moved often in Manitoba and Ontario, but finally settled in
British Columbia in 1944.
Agnes was married in Vancouver to the late Edwald (Ed) Janzen for 42 years. They
raised their family in Vancouver, Prince George, B.C., and Toronto, Ontario. She is
survived by her daughters Elizabeth, Sandra and Diane; her grandchildren David,
Kristin, Michael, Meaghan, Shelley and Bryan; her great-grandchildren Seth, Paisley,
Grayson and Avery; and her sister Anna.
Agnes was an accomplished seamstress and embroiderer. She enjoyed sewing
everything from couture garments to charity projects. She loved to travel, and often
wished she could have seen more places. She challenged herself by taking courses at
Trinity Western University in her senior years. Her greatest love, however, was her
family. She kept photographs of all of her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren
around her wherever she lived. She outlived all 8 of her siblings except
Anna, and missed all of them greatly. In her final days, her desire was to go home to be
with her Heavenly Father, and to the great reunion awaiting her.
A memorial gathering in honour of Agnes will be held at a later date, yet to be
determined. Her remains will be buried in Sunnyside Cemetary in Surrey, B.C.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in her honour may be made to the Mennonite
