LOPES, Winifred Marguerite
January 7, 1927 – December 28, 2018
Winifred Lopes passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 in Vancouver BC, just two weeks before her 92nd birthday. Wyn was born in Middlesborough, England in 1927 and lived in Windsor for nearly 60 years. She was a world traveller, a mother and gramma, a medical secretary, and a lifelong member of Mary Knoll and the Legion of Mary. Wyn was deeply committed to Catholic community work through Assumption Church and Catholic charities and service organizations too numerous to mention. She will be remembered for her lifelong devotion to the Blessed Virgin, and her love of family, friends and community. She is survived by daughters Teresa (Phillip Round), Marie (Denis Gautier) and Christina, grandchildren, Antonio Lopes-Round, Katie Findlay and Simon Lopes, sister Josephine Dumouchelle, husband Ron and children Michael and Stephen, brother Eric Lum and his wife Kay, sisters-in-law Frances Lopes and Marie Viera and many nieces and nephews. Winifred was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Anthony Lopes, and her brothers Anthony, Kerry and Phillip. Visitation at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME. 1700 Tecumseh Road East on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 7 to 9pm. Parish Prayers at 8pm. Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 10:30am till time of Funeral Mass at 11am at Holy Rosary Chapel (350 Huron Church Road). Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Winifred to the Canadian Red Cross: Mother, Newborn and Child Health Program.
