Rosie B. F. Short
December 05, 1937 – September 25, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rosie Short of Springdale, NL, age 80, announces her passing on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from the Green Bay Retirement Living Home, Springdale.
Rosannah, affectionately known by family and friends as “Rosie,” was born in Miles’ Cove, NL, on December 5, 1937, to Loderick and Deborah Reid; Rosie was one of 9 siblings. She married William Henry John Short on July 5, 1955. Together they raised 13 children, had 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Rosie was primarily a homemaker, wife, and mother. She worked hard to raise her children with strong morals and work ethics. Her home was always clean, food was always prepared for her family (and sometimes neighbourhood children), and while struggling financially, her home was rich with warmth and love.
She loved to bake and cook; she was part of a volunteer catering group, cooking and serving for community weddings, special church & community events, and for individual bereaving families. She loved puzzles, game shows, and bowling. She was a part of Tops, the breakfast ladies, Women’s Ministries, Ladies in Touch, and the Red Leaf program.
Rosie was a wonderful person, always putting others before herself. She loved church, and she lived her life modeling Biblical traits for her family, setting a good, Christian example.
She will be sadly missed by anyone who has ever known her gentle demeanor, pleasant smile, and kindness. Her worldly journey is done, and she is now happily waiting for us on the other side.
Rosie is predeceased by her parents Loderick and Deborah Reid; son Orvin Short; grandson Stephen Short; daughter-in-law Karen Short; brother Cyril Reid.
She leaves to remember the wonderful life that she lived, her husband Henry Short; children Woodrow Short, Val Short (wife of Orvin – deceased 2017), Beulah (Otto) Saunders, Vivian (Hank) Clarke, Mavis (Boyce) Wells, Vaden (Lori) Short, Doreen Quinlan, Terry (Theresa) Short, Scott (Corrina) Short, Brenda (Mervin) Buckle, Peggy (Francis) Wheeler, Norma (Peter) Andrews, Barry Short; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers Ross (Marjorie) Reid, Lloyd (Caren) Reid, Freeman (Joan) Reid), Selby (Ruth) Reid, Leonard (Inez) Reid; sisters Shirley (Wallace) Rowsell, Hazel (Lawrence) Hewlett, as well as many other extended family members and friends.
