It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Rose Marie “Rosie” MacKay, age 79, of Whale Cove on January 21, 2019 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Mom passed quietly surrounded by her family.
Rosie was a daughter of the late Gregory Tompkins and Florence Daigle, (Fordview). Rosie married the love of her life, Al, on November 28, 1959. Together they raised four children, Howard (Carolyn), Gordon (Charline), Byron (Marilyn) and Arlene (Cyril), teaching them life lessons through example. She was a woman of great faith who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
With her husband Al, Arthur and Ruby (brother and sister-in-law) she ran Whale Cove Summer Village for over 30 years where guests became family and returned year after year.
The light of her life was family and she created a very special bond with her grandchildren, Amanda (Jake), Brennan, David (Amy), Kyle (Victoria), Dylan, Shamus (Noelle), Shannon (Michael), Savannah (Evan); step grandchildren Justin (Jennifer) and Erica (Greg); great-grandchildren, Timmy, James and namesake “Baby Rosie” (whose recent visit brought tremendous joy to her and all the family during this difficult time); step great-grandchildren, Ian, Acelin, Jack and Cruz.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Al; brother, Nicky; step-mother, Beatrice; brother-in-law, Gordon; sisters-in-law, Vera, Laura and Barbara; and guardians, Josephine and Marcellin. She is survived by siblings, Calist (Wilfredine), Barbara (Gerald), Paul, Gen (John); sister-in-law, Marie, and close friend, Marie Bushor. Survived by in-laws, Arthur (Ruby), Fred (Gloria), and Margie.
We would like to thank the staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their exemplary care and compassion showed to Mom. We want to give special thanks to Dr. Suzie Egar, whom was both an incredibly dedicated physician and a family friend through the course of Mom’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to the Calvin United Church Cemetery Fund, Whale Cove.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24th from 2–4 and 7-9 p.m. in Belle Cote Community Center with Funeral Mass Friday, January 25th at 11a.m in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in East Margaree, Father Alex MacLellan officiating. Burial following Mass at Whale Cove Cemetery.
