Hill, formerly of Murray Siding. It is with heavy hearts that we
announce the passing of Robert Curtis “Bob” Barrett
on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Jack and
Frances (Wambolt) Barrett.
Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and
great grandfather. He worked for many years with his family at Barrett
Plumbing and Heating and before retiring he spent 10 years as a real
estate agent. In his early years he was a skilled athlete in numerous
sports and as a member of the 1956 Saint Mary’s Maritime
Junior Football champion team, was inducted into the Saint
Mary’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. Sports continued to be a
big part of his life as he spent many years coaching and cheering on
his children and grandchildren and supporting local
teams.
As a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church,
Bob contributed to the lives of many through his involvement with
Marriage Encounter, religious education and various church committees.
He was also well known as a “carver” and created
beautiful pieces of art; he shared his talent and passion by teaching
this craft to others. Bob spent many wonderful summers at Seafoam and
Sunset Watch Campgrounds and loved nothing more than being surrounded
by his family and friends enjoying a barbeque and a campfire. He also
had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed many adventures as he and
Roby toured the province and beyond.
Bob is survived by his wife, Rosemary
“Roby” (MacEachern); children, Angie (Chris)
MacIntyre, Robbie (Jenny), Gina (Stephen) White, Michael;
grandchildren, Daniel, Ryan, Lauren, Hilary, Gregory, Janelle, Noah;
great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Arianna, Linken; sister, Kaye Porter,
Peterborough, Ontario; sister-in-law, Earlene Barrett, Truro;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mike and Sylvia MacEachern, Joe
and Anne Marie MacEachern, Bill and Peggy McVicar, Robert MacEachern,
Jerry MacEachern. He will be fondly remembered by many special
cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Along with his parents,
he was predeceased by his infant son, Christopher; sister, Elaine;
brothers, Jack, Charles in infancy; brother-in-law, Ron
Porter.
The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their recent wonderful care
and to Dr. Neil Bower and VON who have provided tremendous care over
the past number of years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bob’s family
will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 23,
2019, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince
Street, Truro, Father Cristinel Fartadi officiating. Reception will
follow in Campbell Hall. Spring interment in Immaculate Conception
Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in
Bob’s memory to VON Colchester Branch, St. Vincent de Paul
Society or a charity of choice are welcomed. Private messages of
