Philipp Mergl, age 91, of Goderich and formerly of Stratford passed away peacefully at Maitland Manor, Goderich, on January 16, 2019. Born in Yugoslavia, son of the late Johan Mergl and the former Anna Bakes. Beloved husband of 71 years to Maria Mergl (nee Amann). Survived by his son Helmut Mergl (Liz), daughter Renate Roth and sister-in-law Kathy Weitmann. Opa to 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Joseph (2001), son-in-law Alan Roth (2013), grandson Adam Roth (2004) and sister Anna Petkovic (2017). Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the W.G. Young Funeral Hume, 430 Huron Street, Stratford from 12 noon until the Funeral Liturgy at 1 p.m. with Fr. Dick Bester officiating. A reception will be held at the funeral home following the interment in Avondale Cemetery.
