It is with deep sorrow that the family of Olga Johns announces her passing on Friday, December 28, 2018.
Olga was born in Spechence, a small village in the Ukraine, on October 16, 1912 to Alexander and Helen Denesuk. At the age of 15 Olga’s father brought her to Moose Jaw, SK where she attended school. In July of 1937 Olga came to Cranbrook to visit her cousin, and fell in love with the mountains. That fall she got a job at the Cranbrook Hospital where she enjoyed her time working and associating with the workers there.
In 1941 she married Doug Johns and the resided in Marysville where Doug worked for Cominco. In 1945 they moved to Cranbrook where Doug worked for CP Rail. They raised two daughters, Lorraine and Shirley. In 2007 Doug and Olga moved to Joseph Creek where Mom enjoyed associating with the people there and going for her daily walks. Mom enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, reading and walking.
Olga is survived by her daughter Shirley (Ken) Jeffries, son-in-law Ernie Schenbachler, her brother Stan (Jean) Denesuk, 7 grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Olga was predeceased by her husband Doug, her daughter Lorraine, her brother Greg in the Ukraine, her brother Walter and sister Shirley in Moose Jaw.
A graveside service for Olga will be held in the spring of 2019.
