Mary Margaret McGaughey McAllister 2019

Mary Margaret McGaughey McAllister
The family of Mary Margaret
McGaughey McAllister announce, with deep sorrow, her passing on
January 10, 2019 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Mary celebrated a long
beautiful life of 101 years, seven months, and ten days, filled with
love, faith, family, and friends.
Mary was born in Bonshaw,
Prince Edward Island, to Margaret O’Regan and Pius
McGaughey.
Mary was married to Donald W.
McAllister (d. 2006). They had three children: Donald Joseph
(deceased), Margaret, and Marilyn.
Mary will be lovingly remembered and
missed by her daughters: Margaret (Art MacMillan) Bedford, Nova
Scotia, and Marilyn McAllister (Trent Munn) Moncton, New Brunswick,
and her five grandchildren, who deeply loved and adored her: Adam
(Laira) MacMillan, Matthew (Wenjia) MacMillan, Ashley (Sean) Hagen,
Kathleen McAllister-Munn, and Jordan McAllister-Munn. Mary was blessed
with five great grandchildren: Lucas, Maya, Caden, Lily, and Ben. She
was a special Nana to Kevin, Hana, and Cayden
Hui.
Mary is also survived by her sister,
Julia Mitchell, of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and her
fourteen loving nieces and nephews.
Mary had a pure and powerful
heart and soul; she brought love and laughter to all she met. Her
family continued to grow as she met and “adopted” new family
members throughout her life.
Mary was predeceased by her
brother Morgan and sister-in-law Sylvia McGaughey, brother-in-law
Gerald Mitchell, and her sister-in-law Marguerite McAllister
Murphy.
Mary was a strong independent
woman of Irish heritage who continued the trailblazing footsteps of
her Irish mother and grandmother. Mary was proud of her relationships
with her family in Ireland and Boston, as well as her Irish
Citizenship.
Mary graduated from Prince of
Wales College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She taught
school in various locations in Prince Edward Island before beginning
her federal government career in Ottawa and
Charlottetown.
Mary and Don met and fell in love, during the Second
World War, married in 1947, and moved to New Brunswick. They lived in
various communities throughout the province. Mary furthered her
education and graduated from the Universite de Moncton. She continued
her teaching career in Grand Falls where she taught Grade 2. Mary and
Don eventually moved to Moncton to be closer to family.
Mary loved to travel; she and Don travelled around
the world. She loved meeting new people and learning and experiencing
new cultures.
Mary enjoyed her involvement
in various organizations, including the Catholic Women’s
League, the Irish Canadian Cultural Society, and the University
Women’s Club.
Mary inspired all who met her,
with her love for life, learning, her faith, humour, kindness, and her
strength. Mary touched the hearts of all those she came in contact
with.
