Maria Alina Romanko of St. Albert passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018.
Maria will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bogumil (Gail), Leszek (Victoria), Marek (Wendy), and Adam; her four grandchildren, Ryan, Erin (Rob) Kadis, Niki, and Bryce; her brother in England, Zbysze Łukaszewicz (Sandra); as well as family in Canada, Argentina, Poland and Bialorus.
She was predeceased by her husband Aleksander (Olek) Romanko, her parents, Antonina and Władyslaw Łukaszewicz; her brothers, Antoni and Jan and baby sister Wanda Łukaszewicz; and daughter-in-law, Trish.
Maria’s life journey began in Poland in 1925 and ended 93 years later in Edmonton. Maria’s life and contributions are the subject of an article by Scott Hayes published in the January 9, 2019 edition of the St. Albert Gazette (www.stalbertgazette.com/article/she-lived-through-history-so-that-she-could-teach-it-20190108).
Maria was a respected educator, an author, community contributor, a role model and a friend to many. Most of all Maria was a loving, caring and dedicated wife, mother grandmother, and aunt.
The family thanks her care givers for their kindness and the care given to her over the past few years.
Father Tomasz Jarosz, OMI will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Maria on Saturday January 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 11485-106 Street, Edmonton.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Maria Romanko, to a charity of their choice.
