OBITUARY
Mrs. Lillian Marie Raffey
June 18, 1926 – January 11, 2019
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lillian Marie Raffey on January 11, 2019 at the Victoria General Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Edna Wilson, her sisters Mary Corneille and Marjorie Compton and her brothers Jim and Frank. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Bob, Rick (Sherry) and Kerry; grandchildren Shannon, Brandy (Jeremy), Matt (Emma), Tim (Erin), Carly, Scott (Mellisa) and Nick; and great grandchildren Keeley, Emma, Isla, Carter, Brady and her many nieces and nephews.
Lillian was born on June 18, 1926 and grew up on the family farm near Pilot Mound, MB. After completing high school, she taught for a year at the Grove School near Deloraine, MB.
In the middle 1940s she moved to Winnipeg to work and eventually was introduced to Cliff Raffey by a high school friend from Pilot Mound. Lillian and Cliff were married on June 21, 1949. The 1950s were busy with the birth and nurturing of her three sons. When they got older, she spent a number of years working as a Leasing Agent for a couple of downtown high rise apartments.
Lillian was an active volunteer with the Princess Elizabeth Hospital Guild and also was involved with the Riverview Community Centre Good Neighbour Group. She was an enthusiastic reader who always had a new book on the go and also loved painting in watercolours.
Lillian and Cliff were regulars at their children’s and grandchildren’s hockey, football, baseball and soccer games and many other events. They started attending Bomber games back in the 1950s at the old Osborne Stadium. After Cliff retired they now had time to explore the world and made two trips to Europe, one to Hawaii and took annual winter vacations down south. She was also an avid Jets fan and her favourite player was “Big Buff”. She went to a Bomber game and a Jets game as recently as last season.
Above all, she will be remembered for her great love of family and her generosity and kindness to all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staff at the 5th Floor Palliative Care at Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and care during her final days.
A memorial service for Lillian will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In The Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. The service will be conducted by Lillian’s niece Bev Ward.
