Obituary of Josef Meister
MEISTER, Josef
May 29, 1931 – January 24, 2019
Josef Meister, age 87, of Regina, SK passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Joe was predeceased by his beloved son Jack in 2010; his father Meinrad in 1942; his mother Magdalena in 1993; his sister Margarethe (Gretel) in 1993; and his brother Meinrad in 2002.
Joe leaves to mourn his partner of 34 years Rose; his granddaughters, Christa Meister, Victoria Meister, Maria Meister, and Jaclyn Meister; and great-grandchildren, Nicole and Josef. He also leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Helga Meister (Germany); and nephews Markus Meister (Germany), Robert Fahrlander, and Glen Fahrlander.
Joe was born in Freiburg, Germany on May 29, 1931. After obtaining his Master Carpenter designation he immigrated to Canada in 1951. He initially spent time working in the Estevan region, and in Winnipeg, MB until finally settling in Regina in the mid-1950s. While being a proud and highly regarded craftsman, Joe was also an avid sportsman. He played soccer for Regina Concordia in the 1950s and 1960s, and was a long time member of Wascana Golf and Country Club – still walking the course into his mid-80s. In particular, Joe loved skiing- traveling throughout Canada and Europe to ski the finest slopes, often with his beloved Rose. He and Rose were also long time Saskatchewan Roughrider season ticket holders.
Joe spent over 25 years as the building manager of the former Robert Simpson Company (Simpsons) in Regina until its closure and his retirement. Thereafter, Joe continued to exhibit his remarkable finishing carpentry skills for his family and friends. In retirement, he and Rose also travelled broadly and enjoyed spending their winters in Palm Springs.
While there will be no formal service for Joe, you are invited to join his other friends and family at an informal come and go reception at College Park II, 1601 Badham Blvd. Regina, SK on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3M7.
Joe’s granddaughters would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Bill Horbach and the staff of College Park II, who provided Joe with such kind and thoughtful care these past ten months. He was very fond of all the wonderful people at College Park II who provided him such outstanding care. Also, special thanks to the physicians and staff of the Family Medicine Unit who, in addition to providing exceptional medical care, also exhibited such genuine empathy and kindness towards Joe.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Josef
