22 janvier 2019
With profound sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jones Harroo. He was born on July 5, 1931 in Trinidad and Tobago. Jones passed away peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer at home, surrounded by his loving family on January 22, 2019.
Jones is survived by his loving and devoted wife Lucille, his cherished son, David and beloved daughter-in-law, Brenda. He will be sadly missed by his siblings; Patsy, Merlyn (Leroy), Terrance, Ruby, Jeanne, Helen (Winston). He was proceeded in death by his parents; Edward Harroo and Lynn Charles, as well as his sisters and brother; Muriel, Wayne, Florie and Edlyn.
Also, missing him terribly are his in-laws; Monique, Thérèse (Claude), Marcel (Aline), and Diane. He was proceeded in death by his loving father- in-law, Gerard and mother-in-law, Gisele Charette.
He is fondly remembered by his aunts; Florence and Claire, his uncles; Jean-Paul, Louis-Rock (Huguette), Andre and also seven god-children, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many life long friends.
Jones immigrated to Canada in 1967, to further his education and continue his career as a teacher with the Hamilton-Wentworth Roman Catholic School Board. He was very active with many different interests; cross country skiing, downhill skiing, pottery, Tai Chi, collecting stamps, watching the Blue Jays, reading and learning as much as he could. But nothing compares to his love of surf fishing on the beach in Florida with George and David; as well as traveling the world with Lucille discovering new places.
The passion Jones had for his family and friends had no limits. His unconditional love was felt by all who knew him. He was a remarkable man, quiet and humble who taught us all many valuable life lessons that will last a lifetime. Not a day will go by that his beautiful spirit won’t be missed. His legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those whom he has touched.
The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the many remarkable doctors, nurses, caregivers, volunteers and to all the people who contributed to his care.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation being held at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Dr. Burlington, ON, on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King, 714 King St W, Hamilton, ON, on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10am.
