It is with great sadness that the family of John William Carey, 68 announce his passing on
Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Regional Hospital with his family by his side.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Louis and Sadie (Pentz) Carey.
John worked for Clearwater for many years and later for Dougie Burns Contracting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Alberta (Hill) Carey; his sons, Jonathan (Janet),
James (Audrey), and Andrew (Ayla). His grandsons who poppy adored and spend many special
times with, Gabriel, Kale and Noah. Also, his granddaughter, Jordan, his little pookie.
John is also survived by his brothers, Sonny (Pat), Alfred (Annie), George, Auley (Ella), Joe Glen
(Michelle) and Donald; sisters, Ella Marg (Allister Phillips), Sophie (Gord Tucker), Gladys (Fred
Howell), Catherine (George Rudderham) and Martha.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Isabelle and Phyllis, and brothers,
Thomas and Raymond.
John was also very much loved and will be missed by the Hill family.
Visitation for John will take place Monday, January 21st, from 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son
Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
A celebration of life will take place the following day, Tuesday January 22nd at 1 p.m. in the
funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. Reception to follow.
