Obituary of Jim McDougall
McDougall, James “Jim” Gordon.
Jim passed away unexpectedly on January 3rd, 2019, at the age of 78 at the Brantford General Hospital. Loving and steadfast husband to Yvonne for 50 years, devoted father to Becky (Simon Salole) and Jonathan. Adoring grandfather to Kaitlin, Jack and Aidan Salole. Predeceased by his parents Archie (Mac) and Florence McDougall. Jim was born in 1940 in St. Thomas, Ontario. After a myriad of different jobs, he discovered his passion for working with children in 1966 when he began working at The W. Ross. MacDonald School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. In the very beginning, Jim worked as a Residence Counsellor and then Teacher. In 1984, Jim became a Resource Consultant and travelled to visit braille-using students in their homes from Cornwall to Fort Francis. At this time, Jim also helped create and run the Sight Substitution Section of the Assistive Devices Program. Jim became head of the Resource Department in 1992 and retired in 1997. Dad was passionate about children and he devoted his life to helping them develop to their fullest potential. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory to the Strong Start program that helps struggling students develop their literacy skills. Donations can be made at www.strongstart.ca. A memorial reception celebrating Jim’s life will be held at McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, 495 Park Road North, Brantford on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Those who are able are asked to bring a photo or a written recollection of a story about Jim to add to a book of remembrance for his family.
