Obituary for
Jean Kirby
Jean Kirby (nee Hadwen)
Just into her 102nd year, and after a short illness, gracefully and quietly left this life while her son was by her side.
Born on the Hadwen farm in Teston to Gertrude Hadwen (nee Wilson) and Jesse Hadwen, she was the eldest in the family, surviving her brothers & sister: Wilbert (d. 2007), Irene (d. 2018), Lorne & Leslie (d. 1923), Eric (d. 1966), James “Jimmy” (d. 1941)
Jean married a local man from Kirby Sideroad, near the Hamlet of Hope, Harold “King” Kirby in 1949 and they built a house on King Street in King City, raising son Wayne and daughter Sandra. Both Jean and King contributed to the community all of their lives, working locally, enjoying a wide circle of relatives, long-time & new friends.
Wayne and Sandra give grateful thanks to: Dr. Joseph Gergis of King City, who would sit down and take our mother’s hand before sincerely inquiring how she was; the management and staff of Hollandview Trail Retirement, Aurora where she spent the last one and a half years being cared for by a wonderful team; and Southlake Regional Hospital who cared for mom during her last five days with such professionalism and compassion.
Friends may call at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill for visitation Friday February 1; 2-4 or 7-9 p.m. with celebration of life service in the chapel Saturday February 2, 11:00 a.m.
If wished, donations may be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket or King City United Church.
Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Ps.73:23-24
