Obituary for Mrs. Jean Yates
YATES, Jean Eleanor –
Passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, at the Kingston
General Hospital on Monday, December 31, 2018.
Jean Eleanor (Salmon) Yates, formally of Guelph, was the beloved wife of the late Keith Yates
(2017) for over 50 years. Jean will be missed by her children, Paul of St.
Catharines, ON and Susan (Matthew Davidson) of Stone Mills, ON and by her
grandchildren Beatrix and Mary Jo Davidson. She will be remembered by her
sister Peggy Lennox (Dave) of Centre Wellington, ON and by many nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Benjamin
and Eldrid (Copeland) Salmon and by her brother and sister-in-law John and
Shirley Salmon and by her sister-in-law Jean Costigan.
Jean was an avid sports enthusiast, who could often be found on the golf course or the
curling rink. She was also a woman who wore many hats, from plumbing,
baking pumpkin pies, dismantling a printing press, designing letterhead,
knitting, gardening and solving puzzles. All with limitless patience and
perseverance.
The family will receive their friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son
Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph on Monday, January 7,
2019 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Jean’s life will take place in
the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm. As
expressions of sympathy, donations to the Liver Clinic at the Hotel Dieu
Hospital – Kingston Health Sciences Centre would be appreciated by the
