Obituary of Gary Skidmore
75, of Herring Cove died suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. Born in Lower Cove, N.S., he was a son of the late John and Olla (Smith) Skidmore.
At the age of 17, Gary enlisted in the Canadian Army, and served for 3 1/2 years. For the last 24 years of his working life, he was employed by the City of Halifax, retiring in 1999. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and daily hikes in the woods with his good friends Keith Watters and Calvin Lethbridge. Known for his kindness towards friends, neighbours and strangers, Gary was generous with his time and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He treasured each dog companion who became part of his life over the years.
Gary is survived by Sharon, his wife of 52 years, and son, John; his sisters, Faye Burkey and Gloria Passero (Steve Yeo); brothers, Cecil McNaughton and Al Brownell (Judy); several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and special sister-in-law Bev McGee and her husband Doug. He was predeceased by his brothers, Teddy and Jackie.
In following Gary’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Donations in Gary’s memory can be made to the charity of your choice.
