Obituary for Mrs. Frances Marion Thompson
Thompson, Frances Marion (nee Collins)
Passed away peacefully at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the age of 79. Beloved wife of Fred for 53 years. Devoted mother of Andrew, Pamela (Claude), Robert and Thomas (Nicola). Loving daughter of Alexander and Muriel Collins. Lovingly remembered by sister Claire Walker and brother Terry Collins. Proud grandmother of Patrick, Julia, Jada, Leela, Wyatt and Callan. Predeceased by her sister Mary Daniels and brother Gordon Collins. Frances advocated and cared for others and was presented the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Volunteer Service Award for her many achievements, including forcing a reinterpretation of Ontario’s Bill 82 for the benefit of learning disabled children. Frances was also a Treasurer of the Toronto Learning Disability Association for many years. As a youth, Frances enjoyed and taught ballet, and loved the arts throughout her life. Frances will be fondly missed by all, including her friends at the Barrie Garden Club. A private family service will be held at the Steckley-Gooderham Funeral Home, 30 Worsley Street, Barrie, ON L4M 1L4, Saturday, February 2, followed by a celebration of her life in the summer. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heartandstroke.ca, and are greatly appreciated by the family.
