Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Elles (nee Schmidt) was born on February 15, 1922 in Evesham, SK to Fredrick “Fritz” Schmidt and Rosella “Rose” Schmidt (nee Saumer). Betty spent her young life in Evesham, SK until she and her mother moved to Maymont, SK, where her mother took a job as a housekeeper on a farm just outside Maymont, where she attended elementary school. When she was about to start high school, Betty moved to Saskatoon to live with her father. She attended Nutana Collegiate and completed her grade 12. Betty loved music and loved to dance and went to many dances at the Legion in Saskatoon. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bernard “Bernie” Elles. After a few short months, Betty and Bernie married on Christmas Day. In January 1952 they welcomed their only daughter, Linda. Betty worked throughout her life at different jobs including as a collection agent and taxi driver. Her last job was as a delivery driver for Pinders Drug Store in Saskatoon, after which she retired. In 1988, she moved from Saskatoon to Spiritwood, SK to be closer to her daughter Linda and son-in-law John. In 2005, she moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Prince Albert, where she resided until her passing. Betty loved life and her family. Betty is lovingly remembered by: her son-in-law: John McCullough; her grandson: Sean McCullough and children: Brayden (Erin) McCullough and their children: Jack and Gray McCullough, Brett McCullough, and Jessica McCullough; her granddaughter: Kerry (Andy Wilson) McCullough and children: Justin (Nikki Alexander) McCullough and Justin’s children: Chloe, Callie and Russell Anderson, Jorden Wilson and daughter: Amaya McCready, and Jamie (Jordache Bear) Wilson and daughters: Olivia Wilson and Phoenyx Bear; her granddaughter: Shelsea (Richard) Johnson and children: Kyle (Mia Thomson) Johnson, and Karissa (Andru Syvertsen) and daughters: Summer and Jupiter Johnson. Betty was predeceased by: her husband: Bernard “Bernie” Elles; her daughter: Linda Rose McCullough (nee Elles); her parents: Fredrick “Fritz” and Rose Schmidt (nee Saumer); her sister: Ethyl Schmidt; her in-laws: Elsie and Lawrence Elles Sr.; as well as numerous other family members. A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Beau “Lac” Funeral Home, 300B – 300 Marquis Road W, Prince Albert, SK, with Annelle Johnstone as Celebrant. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
