Douglas’ Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the families of Douglas Samuel Cole announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, in Corner Brook, NL, on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at the age of 86 years.
He married Delores nee Moss on June 28th, 1958. They had 4 children and lived their lives in Deer Lake. Doug spent many years working in the woods, cutting pulpwood, and spent his later years working with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a guardian. In his retirement years he enjoyed working out in his shed making various woodworking projects. He was a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He enjoyed family and friends most when he could sit around, have a cup of tea and some of Loris’ homemade bread and partridgeberry jam and tell stories of local history and events.
It was a glorious day on November 8th, 2015, when he finally realized his deep need of a savior and his daughter-in-law Debbie led him in the Sinner’s prayer.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 60 years; Delores nee Moss, his children; John (Debbie), Dana, Angela (Paul), and Doug Jr (Terri Lynn). His grandchildren; Tyler (Tamara), Melissa (Paul), Andrew (Bethann), Katherine (Cody), Riley, and “adopted granddaughter Jessica Evans. His great grandchildren; Lily, Curren, Oliver, Ruby, Landon, and Oliver. His sisters; Bertha and Myrtle and brother; Ellis (Darlene). Douglas was predeceased by his father; John Cole, his mother and stepfather; Jessie and Fred Osmond, and his sister June Rodgers and brother Glen Osmond.
The family will be receiving family and friends at Parsons Funeral Home & Chapel 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, on Sunday, January 6th, 2019, from the hours of 7-9 pm, and continuing on Monday, January 7th, 2019 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice in Douglas memory would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 at 2:00 pm, at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church on Bennett Ave, Deer Lake, NL, with Pastor Jeffrey White officiating with the burial to follow at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery, on Wight’s Road, Deer Lake, NL.
