Doreen Margaret Pocha of St. Albert, Alberta passed away on January 11, 2019 at Norwood Hospice at the age of 81.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Stanley George (Tim) Pocha; children, Scott Pocha, Diane Rurka (Richard), and Shawn Pocha; grandchildren, Chandra Pynenberg (Brian), Dustin Smith, Amanda Roy (Blair), Scott Pocha Jr., Kim Pocha, Trevor Pocha, and Erika Rurka; two great-grandsons, Brody Roy and Reid Roy; sister, Betty Lou; and many other friends and extended family who enjoyed the warmth of her spirit in the living world.
She is predeceased by her parents, Herman and Nellie Wilkins; her first son, Kim Pocha who died in infancy; her second son, Kevin Pocha; and her sister Marlene.
Doreen was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on August 9, 1937
A military wife, Doreen was steadfast in the care and establishment of her family in postings such as Kingston, ON, Masset, BC, Bermuda, and Quebec, as well as living with Tim in Italy, Miami and Puerto Rico for Tims work. Included in these busy years, Doreen was Commisionaire of Girl Guides Ontario, raised German Shepherd dogs with Tim, and held various secretarial positions. Doreen suffered from severe COPD in her final days and took her last difficult breath on January 11, 2019, the day after what would have been Kevins 63rd birthday.
Many thanks to special neighbour Simon Perron and her family for selfless friendship over many years, and to the helpers that came from Home care, medical persons, and to all family and friends who were always supportive during the last few weeks of Doreen life.
A Celebration of Doreen life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, January 18, 2019, at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, with a viewing held 1 hour prior. Interment to follow at Northern Lights Cemetery, 15203 Campbell Road, Edmonton.
