Obituary for Donna Cork
Cork, Donna Jane (nee Schaefer) – Passed away peacefully, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with breast cancer on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Spencer House in Orillia. Donna was born December 18, 1943 in Kitchener Waterloo. She graduated from The Hospital for Sick Children School of Nursing in 1966 and shortly thereafter, began her career as a committed and dedicated Registered Nurse. After moving to Lindsay in 1972, Donna continued to explore her many talents and hobbies, while working and raising a young family. She was a beautiful seamstress and a tremendous cook. She enjoyed flowers, music, knitting, curling, playing the piano and socializing with family and friends to name a few, but her greatest love of all, was being a Mom. She is lovingly remembered by her children for her devotion, perseverance, unending love, sacrifice and pride, and for teaching others to be empathetic and kind to those less fortunate. In addition to being a wonderful mom, Donna was a loving wife to Ron, of many years.
Donna is survived by her four children; Jenny Cork of Peterborough, Tanya Beck of Port Hope, Geoff Cork (Laura) of Eden and Dave Cork (Alanna) of Port Sydney; her beloved and adored grandchildren, Brendyn Beck, Owen Beck, Grace Cork, Charlie Cork, Sam Cork and Morgan Cork; her sister, Sue Schaefer, and her brother Rob (Caren) Schaefer; her nieces and nephews and close friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Noah Schaefer and Lois Schaefer (nee Walker).
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and personal support workers of Spencer House for their tireless energy, compassion, understanding and kindness as they provided the utmost care to Mom throughout the past 9 years. We especially appreciate their guidance and support shown throughout our Mom’s declining health.
A celebration to honor Donna’s life will be held in the near future. Interment following cremation will take place this spring at St. Andrew’s – St. James Cemetery, Orillia, Ontario.
If desired, memorial donations to The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation, would be appreciated by the family, and may be made via cheque at the funeral home or online at www.mackeys.ca.
Go rest high on that mountain, Mom, for you have reached the glorious home you so deserve. You brought so much love and light to our lives, with your incredibly warm smile and infectious laugh. Please watch over us, for a mother holds her children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever. You will always be our angel … love you.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Donna Cork 2019..
