Channon Austin Royd Manuel
September 24, 1930 – October 26, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Channon Austin Royd Manuel of Stephenville, NL, age 88, announces his passing on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens Complex, Springdale.
It is with sadness and victory that the family of the late Channon Austin Royd Manuel celebrates his Glorious Homegoing on October 26, 2018. Channon was born on September 24, 1930, in Northern Arm, NL, the oldest of 7 siblings of Clara and Edgar Manuel. He married Louise Violet Irene Sharron of Point Leamington on July 27, 1955 and together they had five children: Lorraine, Beverley, Bob, Paul and Kenny with offspring of 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; 5 stepchildren and 3 step- grandchildren.
Channon learned about hard work at a young age, and helped his father as a teenager in their General Store picking up supplies in Bishop’s Falls, and stocking shelves. Channon’s father, Edgar Manuel, was very handy and a gifted self-taught man with many trades, which he taught to Channon and his brother Ches. He served as a peacekeeper in the Korean War, operated his own sawmill with his brother Ches, and married Louise Sharron in 1955. They lived most of their married life in Stephenville until her passing in 2008.
Channon was an entrepreneur at heart and had various working opportunities. He started working in Stephenville with Irving Oil, and in July 1971 he became a letter carrier with Canada Post, and then moved on to be Postmaster in Port au Port, as well as Regional Supervisor in training and administration duties until he retired in the mid 90s. In the mid 80s, he and his son Paul started a trucking business, which followed with a woods operation until the late 90s. He enjoyed music and could sing and play numerous instruments, write songs, salmon fishing, moose hunting, skidooing, reading, puzzles books, and was an amazing history buff, and also studied the Word of God immensely.
Channon always had a special way with children and enjoyed the times with his grandchildren, who came to love him for his tenderness and play with them even as they grew into adulthood. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments in life and beamed as he would share that with people. He was active in his church as a faithful member and served the Lord for 55+ years as a board member, song leader, school board member and faithfully attended the Sunday and weekly church services and special events like evangelism and prison ministries.
His family was extended in 2010 when Channon married Mildred Milley. They built a new home in Port Anson, where they attended the Redemption Pentecostal Tabernacle. Here they created many new memories with his church family and new extended family.
Channon will be missed for his winning smile and ease of talking to people, and he will be missed by his family but the memories will remain forever. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints,” Psalm 116:15. Our loss is Heaven’s gain – but we do not sorrow as those who have no hope, but we comfort one another that those which are asleep in Christ, God will bring with Him when He returns. “For the Lord himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord,” 1 Thess. 4:13-18.
As Matthew 25:21 says, “Well done good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
Channon is predeceased by his 1st wife Louise Manuel (nee Sharron); parents Edgar and Clara Manuel; sisters Pauline Currie, Joan Evans, Phyllis Manuel, Viola Langdon; brothers Franklin Manuel, Wallace Manuel, Harry Manuel, John Manuel; grandson Matthew Manuel.
He leaves to remember the wonderful life that he lived, wife Mildred Milley; children Lorraine (Pastor William) Bowering, Beverley (Carter) House, Bob (Darlene) Manuel, Paul (Donna) Manuel, Kenny (Kelly) Manuel; grandchildren Deanne (Murray) Small, Heather Bowering, Christopher (Nicole) House, Cheryl (Pastor Jeremy) Nippard, Channon (April) House, Channon (Jenna) Manuel Jr., Heidi (Cody) Hunt, Stephanie Manuel, Jeremy Manuel, Pamela (Shamus) Legere, Kayla Abbott; great-grandchildren Rebecca Small, Zack Bowering, Alexander House, Johnathan House, Christyn Nippard, Carter Nippard, Arabella House, Cassidy House, Conner Manuel, Austin Manuel, Emma Manuel, Bria Hunt, Kesler Hunt, Evalynn Legere, Averial Snow, Kaleb Snow, Shae Snow; sister Irene (Sam) Phillips, Ruth Manuel; brothers Ches Manuel, Winston (Lois) Manuel; stepchildren Nancy MacDonald, Donald Milley, Douglas Milley, John Milley, Steve (Lynette) Milley; step-grandchildren Andrew Milley, Phillip Milley, Amber Milley; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
